Inserted Poppets
Vernay precision molded inserted products are in use all over the world, delivering superior, uncompromising performance. Precision molded inserted products include our V-TipĀ® Needle Valves, Armatures and V-SeatsĀ®, as well as Vernay poppets/sleeves, insert-reinforced products, seals and assemblies. We have the expertise and capabilities to connect a wide variety of elastomeric polymer groups to metals (including brass, aluminum, and stainless steel) and technical plastics. The technology to do this effectively includes compounding technology, inserted part pre-treatment, bonding agent selections, and application of the appropriate molding process development. If the application requires, Vernay can use its technologies to grind components to meet more precise tolerances post-molding.
Poppets can be utilized as pressure relief valves or as a normally closed simple check valves in a spring load application. The design is preferred because the poppet stem keeps the rubber oriented to the seat. Experience has shown that this allows any set taken by the rubber to conform to the seat improving the seal. We generally recommend a cone-shaped hole with an included angle in the range from 70 to 90 degrees. 70 degrees usually provides a good seal without "corking". For higher pressures or softer materials, a higher angle is desirable. This is the highest cost and lowest noise of the three spring-loaded choices and requires additional features in the housing to hold the poppet stem.
