Vernay has been in business making precision rubber products for over 60 years. We already have many pre-engineered solutions to your fluid control problems available in the form of standard parts. In some cases you can directly engineer these into your assembly but in many cases you will desire to modify these designs:
- to achieve specific functional performance such as flow rate or opening pressure
- to aid in the automated handling or mounting of the part into your assembly
- to substitute a different material for chemical or biological compatibility
We can modify an existing design for you, and by doing so, speed up the design and prototyping process saving you time and money. For example, it is often possible to identify a material change to adjust for hardness or compatibility and provide small numbers of parts (typically 100) in two to three weeks.
Sometimes it is also true that the precise functional performance of the rubber part needed to make your prototype system work correctly is not clear. In these cases we encourage the incorporation of free sample standard parts into your prototype system on an ad-hoc basis so you can determine what is needed. We have these parts on the shelf and can get them to you overnight. Then, when your needs are clear, we can engineer a custom part in the correct material, shape, and size to meet your exact needs. In many cases a part can be simply scaled or the material modulus adjusted as needed.
In those cases where neither a standard product nor a modified version of a standard product will meet your needs we are fully equipped to design and evaluate an all-new part which will do so. We make extensive use of simulation tools to model part function and, using these models, work interactively with you and with our production process engineers to achieve a mutually agreed design before cutting steel. This way the trade-offs of function, cost, and manufacturability can be largely worked out in the first iteration of prototype. In many instances, a second iteration is not needed. This approach maximizes the likelihood of an optimized design and a robust production process.
We are accustomed to working directly with our customer's engineers to arrive at the best solution. We find that open dialog to obtain a clear understanding of both the system and the part requirements leads to a satisfying result. Where necessary, confidentiality can be established beforehand. Bring us your problem and we will bring our experience and expertise into the equation.
